Galaxy S25’s Next Update May Not Bring One UI 8

Samsung recently rolled out the fifth One UI 8 beta update for the Galaxy S25 series, raising hopes that the stable release is just around the corner. Many users — especially those who didn’t join the beta program — are eagerly waiting to jump to the big Android 16-based update. But it seems Samsung has one more stop planned for the S25 lineup before One UI 8 goes stable.
One UI 8 may take a back seat to a security update on the Galaxy S25
Samsung has already confirmed that the stable One UI 8 update will go live in September, with the Galaxy S25 series at the front of the line. However, the company hasn’t revealed a release date, leaving users guessing whether it will arrive early in the month or if they need to wait until the end. The recent rollout of Beta 5 in select markets raised hopes of an earlier release.
However, the very next update Galaxy S25 owners see on their devices might not be One UI 8. It looks like Samsung is preparing a routine security release for the lineup. X user @tarunvats33 spotted a new One UI 7-based firmware build for the flagships, carrying the September 2025 security patch. If Samsung proceeds with its usual roadmap, this security update may arrive in the first week of the month, followed by One UI 8.
That means the stable One UI 8 update probably won’t show up until the second or third week of September. So, if you’re refreshing your Software Update screen every few hours in the first week, you’re more likely to spot a plain security update rather than the big Android 16-based upgrade. Or maybe Samsung will drop the plans for a separate September security release and bundle it with One UI 8. We shall find out soon.
