Samsung’s Survey Hints at Built-In Qi2 Magnets in Future Phones

Samsung’s latest flagships — the Galaxy S25 series, Z Fold 7 and Flip 7— support Qi2 wireless charging, but only partially. They’re certified for the standard’s 15W speed and efficiency, but lack built-in magnets, so you’ll need a compatible case to get the full experience. That might change, if a recent floating survey is any indication.

Future Samsung phones might’ve built-in Q2 magnets, if majority doesn’t mind thickness

Samsung is running a survey in its Members app and we spotted some interesting details. It looks like Samsung may be exploring built-in Qi2 support with magnets. The survey asks if users would be open to magnets built into future phones even if that meant a slight increase in thickness.

Two questions stand out. One asks if MagSafe-style magnetic alignment would reduce inconvenience if wireless charging were the only option. The other is more direct and asks whether users would prefer magnets built into the phone even if it made the phone thicker. Users can choose options like a 0.3mm or 0.5mm thickness increase or reject the idea outright.

These tradeoff questions strongly suggest Samsung is considering following Apple’s lead. Qi2 is the latest wireless charging standard from the Wireless Power Consortium. It offers faster speeds and better efficiency. Its biggest perk is magnets that keep chargers perfectly aligned. Samsung users haven’t fully had that yet but this survey shows the company might be ready to change that.

It suggests Samsung may bake Qi2 magnetic alignment into 2026 launches such as the Galaxy S26 or Galaxy Z Fold 8. That would bring Samsung’s wireless charging closer to the seamless experience Apple users enjoy and could pave the way for official Samsung accessories that snap on just as easily.
