The much-awaited 2025 Samsung foldable lineup is finally here. While the new devices bring meaningful upgrades across several key areas, they still lack built-in magnetic alignment for wireless charging. Thankfully, they are Qi2-ready, meaning you can charge your Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 wirelessly using compatible Qi2 cases.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are Qi2-ready

For the uninitiated, Qi2 is a Qi wireless charging standard from the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). It is similar to Apple’s MagSafe technology, which uses a ring of magnets in both the charger and the phone. Unfortunately, Samsung has yet to natively support the Qi2 standard on its smartphones — they do not have a ring of magnets built into the device. However, that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to take advantage of Qi2’s benefits.

Just like the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Samsung’s next-generation book-style and clamshell foldable devices are Qi2-ready. When a phone lacks built-in magnets but still supports the core functionality of the Qi2 standard, it is referred to as Qi2-ready. In that case, you need to rely on a compatible Qi2-certified magnetic case for proper alignment with chargers.

Both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 support 15W wireless charging speeds. You just need to buy a Qi2-compatible magnetic case to take full advantage of the wireless charging capabilities. While this might not offer the seamless experience of built-in magnetic alignment, it still offers the convenience of wireless power.

As for wired charging, both foldables support 25W speed that promises 50% charge in about 30 minutes. Samsung could have offered at least 45W charging, which would have been a welcome upgrade. Maybe we will have to wait until next year for that. Still, this year, Samsung has made significant improvements in some key areas. For example, Galaxy Z Fold 7 now boasts a 200MP main camera sensor, while the Z Flip 7 comes with a 4.1-inch cover screen — the largest on a Flip device to date. If you are eyeing any of these models, pre-orders are now live.
