One UI 8 Will Let You Take Screenshots in Stunning HDR Quality

Samsung is finally set to bring Android 16 to its Galaxy devices with the release of One UI 8. The beta program is already live, though currently limited to the Galaxy S25 trio. Meanwhile, Samsung’s upcoming foldable devices will launch running One UI 8 stable. Interestingly, it looks like Samsung is packing some nifty new tricks into this latest update.
Samsung is now testing HDR screenshots in closed One UI 8 build
One of the coolest tricks coming along the Android 16-based One UI 8 is going to be HDR screenshots support. Noted leaker Ice Universe spotted the HDR screenshots functionality running One UI 8’s ZYF7 build. Mind you, this is not a public beta build, even though we’ve reached second round of One UI 8 beta program.
By the way, Samsung S25 Ultra One UI 8 ZYF7 (Android16 feature) supports screenshot HDR. This is an HDR photo of OPPO Find X8 Ultra
I saw it on social media, and took a screenshot and put it in my gallery.
It still retains the HDR effect of the original photo.

HDR screenshots will let users capture and preserve the full visual quality of HDR content. Right now, screenshots taken from HDR videos or apps are saved in SDR, which flattens the image and strips away much of the brightness and color depth. Thanks to Android 16’s HDR support, we’ll finally be able to take screenshots that maintain all that vivid detail and color richness.
This feature isn’t live in the current public beta just yet, as mentioned earlier. However, since it’s already appearing in internal testing, it’s likely being prepared for a broader rollout. Samsung may introduce it in a future beta update or save it for the stable release of One UI 8.
Samsung has officially confirmed that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 will launch next month running One UI 8 out of the box. Once those devices are released, the Galaxy S25 series is expected to receive the update shortly after.
