Samsung’s next-gen 200MP camera sensor might debut on a rival’s flagship before its own. According to new reports, the Korean tech giant will supply the unannounced ISOCELL HP5 sensor to Oppo for the periscope telephoto camera on the upcoming Find X9 Pro. The move is raising eyebrows, especially as Samsung continues to face criticism for the underwhelming zoom performance on its own Galaxy Ultra flagships.

Oppo Find X9 Pro may feature Samsung’s ISOCELL HP5 sensor

A few weeks ago, a report revealed that Oppo will integrate Samsung’s ISOCELL camera sensor in its Find X9 lineup. Since Chinese smartphone makers such as Vivo and Xiaomi usually use the ISOCELL HP9 sensor for the telephoto unit, we expected Oppo to follow the same route. However, the firm is planning to use the unreleased ISOCELL HP5 sensor in its next-gen flagship.

A well-known tipster, Digital Chat Station, recently claimed that Oppo’s Find X9 Pro will feature a triple rear camera setup. These include a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. More importantly, the tipster said that the phone’s periscope telephoto lens will use Samsung’s new ISOCELL HP5 sensor. It is a 200MP, 28nm sensor with 0.5μm pixels and a 1/1.56-inch optical size. It supports DCG-HDR (Dual Conversion Gain HDR).

If you look at the leaked specs, it’s quite a large sensor — especially for a periscope telephoto — compared to the 1/2.52-inch sensor in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Unfortunately, Samsung may not use it in its own flagship smartphones. We understand that the company’s smartphone division operates independently of the unit responsible for developing camera sensors. However, it’s still the same company, and fans want the best camera hardware on Galaxy flagships.

As for why Samsung doesn’t use large sensors in its phones, reports suggest it conflicts with the company’s current design philosophy. The Korean firm is leaning toward introducing slimmer and lighter phones while delivering top performance and pro-grade photography. But as other vendors step up their hardware game using Samsung’s sensor, this is looking great for the world’s largest smartphone company. Oppo will launch its new flagships featuring the Samsung  ISOCELL HP5 200MP camera later this year.
