Samsung’s 200MP Cameras Boost Oppo Find X9 Ultra Photography

Samsung not only uses its in-house 200MP camera sensors in its premium Galaxy devices but also supplies them to other OEMs. In recent years, Chinese smartphone manufacturers have been integrating Samsung’s high-resolution cameras in their devices. A fresh report now hints that the Korean firm may supply its 200MP camera sensors for Oppo’s next-generation Find X9 Ultra. If true, this would greatly benefit Samsung’s Device Solutions (DS) division, which has been struggling lately.
Oppo Find X9 Ultra may feature two Samsung 200MP ISOCELL sensors
According to a report from GSMArena, Oppo is planning to adopt a quad camera system on its upcoming Find X9 Ultra. The configuration could include a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and a pair of periscope telephoto units — 200MP and 50MP. What caught our eye was that the phone will feature two 200MP camera sensors. While the report did not specify the sensor, we can assume it will use Samsung’s ISOCELL sensors, given that the Korean firm is currently the only player making 200MP sensors.
Samsung’s ISOCELL portfolio currently includes five 200MP sensors for smartphones: HP9, HP2, HPX, HP3, and HP1. However, Chinese smartphone makers usually pick the ISOCELL HP9 sensor for the telephoto unit since it is the latest one. For example, both Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Vivo X200 Ultra use the ISOCELL HP9 sensor for their telephoto cameras. Oppo will likely use the same telephoto sensor for its upcoming Find X9 Ultra. As for the primary unit, it could be either HP2 or HP3.
Launched in 2024, ISOCELL HP9 is the industry’s first 200MP telephoto sensor for smartphones. It features 200 million 0.56-micrometer (μm) pixels in a 1/1.4-inch optical format. It delivers excellent shots in low-light conditions, addressing a common challenge for traditional telephoto cameras.
Samsung has yet to use the HP9 sensor in its own Galaxy smartphones for the telephoto unit. However, it has been using the ISOCELL HP2 sensor on the primary camera on its Ultra flagships since 2023. This sensor is found on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, S24 Ultra, S25 Ultra, and the newly launched Galaxy S25 Edge.
