Samsung’s next major software update, One UI 8 based on Android 16, may debut with the new foldables in July. As usual, the company will first roll out a beta testing program in select regions, letting users preview and provide feedback on the new OS before the stable release. But if you’re wondering whether all Galaxy S25 models will be eligible for the beta, there’s one variant that might be left out.

Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra are likely to get One UI 8 beta

The Galaxy S25 lineup currently consists of four models: the S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, and the recently announced S25 Edge. A fifth device, the Galaxy S25 FE, will arrive later this year with One UI 8 pre-installed — meaning it’s out of the equation when discussing One UI 8 beta. However, the Edge model might also miss out on the beta build.

There are multiple reasons why that seems likely. For one, no One UI 8 beta firmware has surfaced for the Galaxy S25 Edge so far, while we have seen multiple test builds and internal beta releases for other S25 models. Moreover, the Edge is still in the pre-order period. It won’t be until sometime in June that the phone will reach a sizeable number of users. The beta program itself may begin later this month or in early June.

Since Samsung is unlikely to release One UI 8 beta beyond India, China, South Korea, Germany, Poland, the UK, and the US, there may not be enough Galaxy S25 Edge users in these regions for the company to offer the beta build. Even if it does plan a beta release for the slim model, the first beta build may arrive later than the rest of the lineup. Stay tuned as Samsung prepares to kick off the One UI 8 beta program.
