Google aims to keep improving its core Android OS components, such as the Google Play Store and Play Services. So, the company develops and releases Google Play system updates monthly to enhance security, fix bugs, and introduce new features across the Android ecosystem. It has now started revealing what the May 2025 Google Play system update brings to Android devices, including smartphones, tablets, TVs, Android Auto, Wear OS, and more. The latest system update should roll out to Samsung Galaxy devices in the coming weeks.
Here’s the first batch of Google Play system updates for May 2025
The first batch of May 2025 Google System updates contains several new features for the Play Store and Play Services. The Google Play Store version 46.2 now allows users to search content in videos, animations, and other formats on Play Search. On top of that, users will be able to choose to get promotional notifications and emails for offers, deals, and more.
Now, talking about the Google Play services version 25.18, it mainly addresses device connectivity and the wallet segment. For phones, the update has added a new functionality that lets users utilize Cast on standby-friendly devices. On top of that, the update makes it easier to transfer eSIM between devices. On Wear OS devices, users will now notice visual improvements on the screen.
Moreover, the latest Play Services update also brings a bunch of new features for Google and third-party app developers to support device connectivity and digital wallet & payments processes in their apps.
As for when the update will be released, there are no specific dates, but rest assured, the update will soon start rolling out through the Google Play Store and Play Services for eligible Galaxy devices. If you want to check manually if the latest update hit your device, just go to Settings > About phone > Software information > Google Play system update.
Meanwhile, Samsung is rolling out its May 2025 security update for eligible Galaxy devices, addressing over 70 vulnerabilities. As of now, the security update is available for the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy A56, Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6, but soon more Galaxy devices will join the list.
