Samsung is on a roll today. In addition to rolling out One UI 7 updates for older devices, the company has also released a new security patch for the Galaxy S25 series. The 2025 flagship lineup is receiving the May security update in the US, with a global rollout expected to follow soon. Unfortunately, the rumored camera improvements and other feature enhancements don’t appear to be included in this update.
Galaxy S25 series gets the May 2025 security update
The May 2025 security update is rolling out to the carrier-locked Galaxy S25 units in the US with the firmware build number S93*USQS3AYDF. It comes with an OTA size of more than 600MB, though the size may vary depending on the model and carrier variant. The carrier-locked Galaxy S25+ on AT&T’s network received a 670MB package.
Despite a relatively large size, the update appears to be all about this month’s security fixes. As that “S” between “Q” and “3” in the build number suggests, it likely doesn’t bring any user-facing changes — updates containing new features or other enhancements have “U” in place of “S” in the build number. The official changelog supplied by Samsung confirms the same.
If you noticed, the changelog also mentions updates to the security policy. This essentially means a bootloader upgrade, which blocks you from reverting to the older firmware build. The latest update introduces bootloader version 3, denoted by the fifth digit from the last in the build number. The April update also contained a bootloader upgrade from version 1 to 2.
Where are those camera enhancements?
Samsung is rumored to be preparing camera enhancements for the Galaxy S25 series, improving the photo and video quality. The company also plans to roll out UI and animation improvements to the new flagships. These updates were initially expected to arrive with the May release, but did not. It’s unclear if Samsung plans to push another update to the Galaxy S25 lineup later this month or if we’ll have to wait until June.
We are also awaiting information on the patch details for May 2025. These monthly security patches address dozens of vulnerabilities across the Android OS, One UI, and other device components. Samsung should publish its updated security bulletin early next week. The update should also soon roll out to the Galaxy S25 series and other eligible devices in the US and beyond.
Thanks, Sarcasmo!
