Update: X’s Head of Product, Nikita Bier, confirmed that it’s now rolling out. You should be able to see the profile details now when you tap on the joining date. Unfortunately, it’s only live for iOS users at the moment. In separate posts, Bier confirmed that it will be coming to web tomorrow, and for will be “coming soon” to Android.

The original report published on October 14 follows:

It’s been a long time since Twitter became X, and since then, we’ve seen a handful of additions. More recently, Nikita Bier, formerly of tbh and Gas, joined X as the head of product in July 2025. Since then, Bier has announced a few changes coming to the platform. In the latest update, Bier revealed that the platform is “experimenting with displaying new information on profiles.”

X will soon show country info and username history on profiles

As part of this experiment, X will now show the country an account is based in, such as the US, UK, or India. It will also indicate how many times an account has changed its username and when the last change occurred. Notably, Instagram shows something similar on profiles, though the location is optional. Bier hints that this feature might also be optional, though he notes that if you opt out, it could be highlighted.

X profile username change country

Bier says that these features will initially appear on “a handful of profiles of X team members to get feedback.” The wording makes it clear that X will first test the profile information with internal team members, so our first look at the feature may be on profiles like those of Nikita Bier, Keith Coleman, and others on the team. Yes, add Elon Musk to the list too.

The hope is that this update will help reduce scams, if not spam. It will certainly make it easier to know which country someone is operating from and how often they’ve changed their username. Suffice to say, X can be a wild place at times, with hate speech and an abundance of political content. This feature may make it easier to understand who is behind an account, offering a bit more transparency on the platform.

These changes are still in the testing phase, but they could be a small yet important step toward making X feel a bit safer and more transparent. Showing basic profile details might help users get a better sense of who they’re interacting with, and could cut down on some of the confusion and mischief that comes with anonymous accounts or constant username changes.
