Samsung’s February security update is now available for the Galaxy S23 series in the US. The 2023 flagships received the new security patch in some international markets last week. Samsung is also rolling out this update to several other devices, including the Galaxy Xcover 5, Galaxy A52, and Galaxy A03.

US Galaxy S23 units receive the February security update

Samsung first released the February security patch for the Galaxy S23 series in its home country of South Korea. Since then, the update has rolled out in several other markets, finally reaching the US shores. All three models are picking up the latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release) stateside.

As of this writing, the update seems limited to carrier-locked units. The devices are picking up the firmware build number S91*USQU5CYB1 with their February SMR. While the build number suggests it’s more than just a security patch — the “U” between Q and 5 indicates the update contains additional changes — the changelog reveals nothing.

“The security of your device has been improved,” Samsung’s official release notes state. Anyway, do not expect any new features or functional upgrades here. The update may contain additional bug fixes or stability improvements, but definitely no new goodies. Samsung is preparing the One UI 7.0 update with tons of new features.

While we wait for the stable One UI 7.0 rollout, the February SMR is making its way into more Galaxy devices. Beyond the US Galaxy S23 units, we recently spotted Samsung rolling out the latest security patch to the Galaxy Xcover 5, Galaxy A52, and Galaxy A03 in several global markets. The company has already updated over 30 other models.

As far as the content of this month’s SMR is concerned, it addresses over 40 vulnerabilities, one of which is confirmed to be a critical Android OS flaw. Samsung will continue to roll out this update to more eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets in the coming days. Galaxy users can always check for updates manually from the Settings app.
