In a surprising turn of events that sounds straight out of a heist movie, a truck loaded with Samsung’s newest foldable phones — the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 — was recently stolen near London’s Heathrow Airport. The stolen cargo contained around 12,000 shiny, brand-new foldables, worth a whopping $10.6 million. The exact timing of the theft remains unclear.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 on July 9, followed by a global market release on July 25. Both new foldables have been making headlines for their slick design and high-end features. Despite their premium price tags — the Flip 7 starts at £1,049 in the UK, while the Fold 7 costs £1,799 and above — the phones are in high demand globally, breaking pre-order records in several key markets.

This makes this massive theft even more concerning for Samsung, which hasn’t officially commented on the matter yet. However, it must be working closely with UK law enforcement to track down the stolen units. As mentioned earlier, the exact date of the heist is still unknown.

Ideally, the Korean firm would want to get hold of the phones. But if that doesn’t look possible, it might blacklist the stolen units so they can’t be sold in the illegal market. In fact, Samsung may have already blacklisted the stolen devices, effectively bricking them if they ever connect to the internet. The company can re-enable them if found later.

Samsung likely has insurance to cover incidents like this, so the financial hit might not sting too badly. Still, if authorities can’t recover the stolen stock soon, the company could face delays in fulfilling orders, especially with demand for the new foldables running high.
