TM Roh, the head of Samsung’s smartphone division, will reportedly meet Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra on the opening day of CES 2026 in Las Vegas. Samsung requested this urgent meeting as concerns grow over securing enough LPDDR5X mobile DRAM for the upcoming Galaxy S26 series. The new flagships are set to launch in the first quarter of 2026.

Samsung’s TM Roh to meet Micron CEO to discuss Galaxy S26 memory supply

Korean media recently claimed that Samsung’s chip division rejected a proposal from the smartphone unit for a long-term memory supply deal. Although Samsung has dismissed the report as baseless, there is a practical reason the chip unit may prefer to avoid long-term agreements. Memory prices have more than doubled over the past year and continue climbing. Locking into a fixed contract could limit profit potential during a rising market.

As for the smartphone division, this comes as a massive blow just before the Galaxy S26 launch. Rising component prices are already putting its profitability at risk, and the firm now has to deal with potential memory supply challenges. It is now leaning more heavily on Micron, intensifying the need for emergency negotiations. TM Roh’s decision to intervene personally underscores the gravity of the situation.

While it remains unclear how much LPDDR5X volume Roh will request from Micron, industry observers expect him to push aggressively for a substantial allocation at a price Samsung’s smartphone division can accept. If successful, Micron would likely strengthen its already growing role in the Galaxy flagship DRAM supply chain.

For now, Samsung is keeping details quiet, saying only that it “cannot confirm” memory configuration plans for the Galaxy S26 series. But one thing is clear: TM Roh’s meeting at CES 2026 will be far more than a courtesy visit. It may determine how smoothly Samsung can launch its most important smartphone of the year.
