Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy S25 FE, the newest entry in its “affordable flagship” lineup. The device arrives with several noteworthy upgrades, including a larger battery, faster charging speeds, an improved selfie camera, and a more powerful processor. But what makes the S25 FE stand out is its software. It comes with One UI 8 out of the box, even before the main Galaxy S25 lineup receives the update.

One UI 8 comes early on the Galaxy S25 FE

Based on Android 16, One UI 8 is Samsung’s latest custom Android skin. It introduces a refreshed interface, smoother animations, AI-powered features, and improved system optimizations for a more seamless Galaxy experience. Samsung has been beta testing the update on the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra for months, and a stable release is confirmed for September. The Galaxy S25 Edge should also receive the update this month.

However, with the launch of the Galaxy S25 FE, Samsung is delivering One UI 8 to consumers ahead of its own flagship models. While it isn’t the first device to ship with the new version — the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, Flip 7 FE, as well as the newly launched Galaxy Tab S11 also run One UI 8 from day one — the S25 FE marks an interesting twist. It gives buyers of Samsung’s cheapest S25 model earlier access to the latest software than those who pay for premium flagships.

Perhaps more intriguing is Samsung’s update policy. Like the rest of the S25 lineup, the Galaxy S25 FE will get seven years of software support. But because it launched with One UI 8 (Android 16), it’ll receive updates through Android 23, whereas the S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra — which debuted on One UI 7 — will stop at Android 22.

This isn’t entirely unprecedented. The Galaxy S21 FE also shipped with a newer version of Android than the standard S21 series, and it remains eligible for updates today while its flagship siblings are not. If the Galaxy S25 FE sounds like your next phone, it is now available through Samsung’s official website, starting at $649.
