Sony Prepares Larger 200MP LYT-910 Camera Sensor to Challenge Samsung

Samsung has long led the ultra-high-resolution smartphone camera market, pioneering the 200MP sensor trend years ago. Now, Sony is gearing up to challenge that dominance with its own 200MP LYT-910 sensor, expected sometime next year. Sony’s camera has a larger optical format, potentially delivering brighter images.
Sony gears up to launch its first 200MP camera sensor, the LYT-910
Sony’s upcoming 200MP mobile camera will reportedly be called the LYT-910 (earlier rumors referred to it as IMX09E). The sensor is reportedly 1/1.11 inches in size with 0.7µm pixel size. It can capture both 200MP full-resolution images and 50MP pixel-binned shots for enhanced light sensitivity and detail.
More impressively, it supports 2x and 4x in-sensor lossless zoom, letting users achieve closer framing without sacrificing image quality. This feature could appeal to flagship phone makers looking for optical-grade zoom performance without bulky periscope lenses.
The LYT-910 is also expected to deliver outstanding HDR performance, reportedly achieving a dynamic range exceeding 100 dB. This should allow it to capture fine details in both bright and dark scenes, an area where Sony sensors already excel. Video recording specs are equally impressive: the LYT-910 may support 4K at 120fps and 8K at 30fps recording with HDR enabled, a combination rarely seen even in high-end smartphones today.
In comparison, Samsung’s largest 200MP sensor, the ISOCELL HP, measures 1/1.22 inches. The ISOCELL HP2 used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra and likely in the upcoming S26 Ultra has an optical format of 1/1.4 inches. This makes Sony’s upcoming camera the largest in this segment. While Samsung’s sensors already offer sharp detail and advanced remosaic processing, the LYT-910 should bring notable improvements in many key areas.
Its arrival next year could finally give Samsung some true competition in the ultra-high-resolution arena. The first smartphones expected to feature the Sony LYT-910 are the OPPO Find X9 Ultra and Vivo X300 Ultra. These brands have traditionally relied on Sony’s IMX sensors for their premium camera systems, and the LYT-910 could give them a major edge in photography performance.
