It looks like some Galaxy S23 owners are experiencing a sudden hardware failure, causing their device to shut down. For the past few weeks, several affected users have reported that the issue stems from motherboard failures. This is quite disappointing, as the only way to fix the issue is by visiting a service center — and, of course, paying a hefty repair bill.

Motherboard failure disappoints owners of the Galaxy S23 series

Debuted in early 2023, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 flagship series includes three models: Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra. These models packed powerful hardware with cutting-edge technology, catering to the premium smartphone segment. However, now reports of motherboard failures are casting doubts on the promising lineup.

In a community post last week, a Galaxy S23 owner said that their phone suddenly shut down. The user tried pressing the volume and power buttons simultaneously to restart it, but the device did not respond. They took it to a service center and found the motherboard had failed, which is quite unfortunate.

This is not a standalone case, as several 2023 flagship users (1, 2, 3) from different regions have been reporting similar issues over the past few weeks. Some believe that a recent software update could be the culprit for the problem, causing the devices to malfunction. While Samsung has not confirmed the cause, a customer support representative suggested that the issue is not because of the software update.

“As per your concern, we would like to inform you that the latest software update has been developed to enhance both the performance and stability of your smartphone. This update has undergone thorough testing at various stages to ensure reliability,” the representative noted.

Speaking of repair costs, for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the service center quoted $450 for a motherboard replacement. That’s a huge expense. Meanwhile, Samsung is offering a free screen replacement program for Galaxy S23 users suffering from the green line display issue in India. But for the motherboard problem, the company has not yet announced such support.
