While competitors have pushed charging technology forward, Samsung has maintained a conservative approach. Its flagship smartphones top out at 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. This could change soon though. A fresh rumor hints at 65W charging support on the Galaxy S26 series.
Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series could support 65W charging
For years, Samsung’s flagship smartphones have delivered industry-leading displays, cameras, and software experiences, but one area that has remained largely unchanged is battery capacity and charging speed. It hasn’t gone beyond 5,000mAh battery capacity and 45W charging. The upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra offers the same, with the base S25 model limited to just 25W wired charging.
However, recent developments suggest Samsung is preparing to make significant advancements in this space. For one, the company is working on introducing stacked-type batteries to smartphones. This technology is used in larger batteries for electric vehicles (EVs). It increases the battery capacity by up to 10% in the same size.
Additionally, Samsung aims to use a silicon-carbon anode instead of the traditional graphite anode in its next-gen smartphone batteries. The new material is safer and more sustainable and has a higher energy density, once again helping increase the battery capacity. The goal is to ship the Galaxy S26 series with silicon-carbon batteries.
Silicon-carbon batteries also have a reduced risk of overheating, allowing faster charging without generating much heat. It appears Samsung plans to take advantage of these technological gains, increasing the Galaxy S26’s charging speed to 65W. If not the entire lineup, at least the Galaxy S26 Ultra could offer faster charging.
It’s still very early to say for sure, though. X user @kro_roe recently hinted at this possibility but didn’t say anything specific. They quoted a post about Samsung’s stacking battery plans and wrote “65” exactly 60 times with no additional context. Hopefully, our speculation turns out to be true. Expect more Galaxy S26 rumors in the coming months.
