September 2025 Google Play System Updates: What’s New

With monthly Play system updates, Google continues to improve core components of its Android OS, such as the Play Store and Play Services. The company recently detailed the September 2025 Google Play system update for several Android devices across phones, smartwatches, and other categories. Eligible Galaxy device owners can expect to receive the latest system update in the coming weeks.

Here’s the first batch of Google Play system updates for September 2025
Google Play system update brings security improvements, bug fixes, and new features to the Android platform. Unlike major OS releases, which completely revamp the Android experience, these updates mainly focus on improving the overall user experience. Regarding the notes for the first batch of this month’s system updates, Play Services version 25.34 and Play Store version 47.8 bring notable improvements.
The latest Play Services update fixes bugs for account management-related services. Furthermore, it brings the ability to automatically back up and restore theft protection settings. Now you do not need to set up protection preferences again after a factory reset or switching to a new device. For Google and third-party app developers, it introduces new features to better support connectivity-related processes in their apps. Additionally, the Wallet app now lets you authenticate a tap transaction even when your phone remains locked for more than 30 seconds.
Meanwhile, the latest Play Store update improves search functionality on phones. Now, when you search for an app in the Play Store, you will see more relevant results within the snippets. As you can see, the first batch is quite limited, but we can expect the upcoming batches throughout the month will bring more enhancements to core components.

The latest Google Play Services version 25.35 update brings support for expressive design in Document Scanner. It also fixes a bunch of bugs related to device connectivity for phones and wearables. You will now be able to use a new Wake-on-LAN feature to turn on your Linux TV from sleep mode via Cast.
Furthermore, it now automatically runs phone number verification during setup. If you want to manage your preferences, you can do so in Device Settings or through your Google Account. Google Wallet users can access cards from a work profile to a personal profile on both their phone and wearable devices.
Meanwhile, Google Play Store version 47.9 introduces a new task-based search feature, letting you quickly find apps that can help you finish your tasks.

With Play Services version 25.36, Google makes sign-in smoother with better engagement and discovery in Automotive. On Wear devices, the update brings a new expressive theme to the parental controls dashboard. Developers now gain support for Location and Context-related processes in apps. You can now transfer supervised accounts easily to a new device with QuickStart. Furthermore, the update fixes bugs related to device connections and improves device performance.
As for Play Store version 48.0, the update brings a new featured format at the top of the Apps tab. If you live in South Korea, you will see a dedicated entertainment section under Apps. Moreover, you can now quickly restore your favorite apps on a new phone.

The Play Services version 25.37 fixes bugs and improves stability in account management. The Android document scanner now allows you to easily scan multiple pages in real-time. It also adds new tools for developers to better manage account-related processes in their apps. Furthermore, the update fixes device connectivity issues and improves the accuracy of timeline check-ins. The support section will let you find information about new Android features. If you live in Japan, you can set up balance notifications for transit cards. Lastly, it will allow developers to sideload closed-loop cards into Google Wallet.
Speaking of Play Store version 48.1, it provides better notifications about your recent app installs. Thanks to making improvements to the UI, it helps prevent the disablement of protection. Furthermore, the update adds a new section in Comics Hub to display the latest manga releases. The editorial pages feature new formats to make apps and other content more noticeable.

The Play Services version 25.38 update brings the ability to join audio sharing through Fast Pair. It also makes restoring data from fully managed devices easier after setup. Other improvements include clearer text descriptions for shared locations and interface tweaks for Play Games profile creation flow. In the utilities segment, the update lets you autofill and save wallet valuables such as loyalty cards and flight codes. Meanwhile, developers gain new tools to support digital wallets and payment-related processes within their apps.
Speaking of the Play Store version 48.2, the update introduces the You tab, a hub where you can engage with favorite topics. The tab lets you find personalized app content based on your installed apps. Thanks to the Public Profile and Follow feature, you can now follow other players to view their gaming activity. In Kenya, the update makes payment easier with M-Pesa integration.
Furthermore, you can get rewards with gaming streaks when you play any game. You can also access AI-generated content through the chatbot and find YouTube videos for select games. New Google Play users can set their interests to receive personalized recommendations. The update also lets you find Google Play Games for Windows through the Play Store.
