Samsung Uses AI to Block Voice Phishing and Spam on Galaxy Phones

Samsung has introduced a new AI-powered security feature for its Galaxy smartphones. Dubbed “Suspected Voice Phishing Call Alert”, the feature protects users from voice phishing in real time. As of now, it is available on Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 in South Korea.
Samsung introduces an AI-powered voice phishing alert feature
Samsung aims to protect its Galaxy users from cyber threats and provide a more enhanced security experience. Part of One UI 8, the new security feature is available on the company’s phone app. In the first half of this year, there were about 12,000 voice phishing cases with around 640 billion won in damage. So, the Korean firm saw the need to strengthen protections against such scams.
The feature uses AI to detect potential voice phishing calls in real time and alert the user in two stages: Suspicion and Warning. The former shows a yellow warning with the phrase “Suspected of voice phishing” and triggers a sound and vibration. Meanwhile, the latter displays a red alert that reads “Warning: Voice phishing detected” and signals a sound and vibration three times each. To turn it on, head over to Settings in the phone app > Suspected Voice Phishing Call Notification.

Since 2024, Samsung has developed a solution that detects voice phishing using on-device AI and deep learning. Furthermore, the company trained its AI model on about 30,000 voice phishing cases provided by the National Police Agency and the National Institute of Scientific Investigation.
Samsung has promised to bring this voice phishing protection feature to more smartphones running One UI 8 in the future. However, there is no word on global availability at the moment. For SMS spam, the company already has a malicious message blocking feature on domestic Galaxy smartphones. Moreover, in March this year, it launched an AI-based intelligence blocking function.
“Samsung Electronics will continue to strengthen its technology to block voice phishing and malicious messages, and will do its best to provide a safer mobile environment for Galaxy users,” said Kim Jung-sik, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ MX Business Division.
