Samsung Updates Galaxy AI Policy, Confirms Core Features Stay Free

If you’ve been wondering whether Samsung plans to charge a subscription for AI features on your Galaxy device, there’s some reassuring news. The company has confirmed that basic Galaxy AI features available out of the box or delivered through software updates will remain free. While Samsung may introduce paid AI tools in the future, any such changes will be clearly communicated in advance.
Samsung rewrites Galaxy AI’s “free until 2025” policy
The confusion dates back to early 2024, when Samsung introduced Galaxy AI with the Galaxy S24 series. At the time, the company said the features would be free only until the end of 2025, leaving open the possibility of future charges. That wording stayed on its official websites into 2026, causing many users to wonder what would happen once the deadline passed.
Just recently, Samsung updated the footnotes on its support pages. The revised wording now clearly states that basic Galaxy AI features provided by Samsung are free, confirming that users can continue using these tools in 2026 and beyond without paying. The company did clarify last year that it doesn’t plan to move pre-installed Galaxy AI features behind a paywall. The updated footnotes now further reassure users.
Everything currently listed under the Galaxy AI menu in Settings, as well as Bixby-powered AI tools, will remain free to use. However, Samsung notes that it may introduce new or enhanced AI features in the future that could require payment. The company also makes it clear that AI features provided by third parties may be subject to different policies as defined by the respective providers.
To recall, Samsung has integrated Google’s Gemeini AI across various system apps. Starting with the Galaxy S26 series, we may also see Perplexity in the mix, potentially powering Bixby’s brains. If these companies decide to charge a fee for their AI tools, Samsung would have little control. The good thing is that features like Photo Assist, Call Assist, Writing Assist, Interpreter, Audio Eraser, and Now Brief will remain free.
