Samsung has rolled out an update to its AI assistant, Bixby. It brings version 3.7.12.18 and introduces a few smaller upgrades for enhanced user experience. Most notably, users get two new app shortcuts for typing and speaking commands. Samsung has also improved how you interact with Bixby, alongside other minor bug fixes.
New Bixby update focuses on enhancing the user experience
The latest Bixby update adds shortcuts to launch type or speak out your commands without first launching the app. You can find these shortcuts by long-pressing the Bixby app icon in your app drawer. Earlier, this menu only contained a shortcut to Bixby settings, which remains intact after the update. Bixby also previously offered shortcuts to Discover and Quick Commands, but those have now been removed.
Samsung’s official release notes for this update also reveal a notable improvement in the way Bixby listens for voice commands. Now, you can activate Bixby by long-pressing the side button — but once Bixby starts listening, you can release the button and continue speaking. This small change removes the need to keep holding the button while talking, making interactions feel much smoother and more natural.
In addition to these updates, Samsung mentions “additional function improvements and bug fixes” to enhance Bixby’s performance overall. The update is rolling out gradually and should reach all eligible Galaxy users worldwide within the next few days. If you don’t see it yet, it should appear soon. Samsung is rumored to roll out a major upgrade to Bixby with dozens of new features. Galaxy users in China have already received some of those improvements with One UI 7, but a global rollout hasn’t begun yet. Hopefully, these minor updates are in preparation for a massive overhaul for Samsung’s AI assistant, bridging the gap to rivals like Google’s Gemini and Apple’s Siri.
