UPDATE (May 12, 2025): Following a limited initial rollout in Korea, the Galaxy Watch 4 series is now widely receiving this update. We can confirm its availability in India with a similar OTA size (approx. 445MB). The update should soon hit all eligible units worldwide.

Samsung’s software team seems to have hit a purple patch, pushing out updates at an impressive pace. While the rollout of One UI 7 for Galaxy smartphones and tablets gathers momentum, the company isn’t neglecting its wearable lineup either. After delivering major updates to the Galaxy Watch 7, Watch Ultra, Watch 6, and Watch 5 series, Samsung is now turning its attention to the Galaxy Watch 4 series.

Galaxy Watch 4 series gets a major update from Samsung

Like other models, the new update for the Galaxy Watch and Watch 4 Classic is a significant one. The OTA package weighs nearly 445MB for the Classic model, though it varies depending on the size and connectivity variant. Samsung pushed similar-sized or bigger updates to the Watch 5 and newer models, with the Watch 7 and Ultra getting 900MB or larger updates in some regions.

Unfortunately, Samsung’s official changelogs don’t reveal much. Release notes for this Galaxy Watch 4 update say stability and security enhancements alongside the March 2025 security patch. This has been the story for all other models. It’s unclear what kind of system optimizations these watches are getting with such massive OTA files. Hopefully, it means a smoother and more reliable everyday experience for users.

Another theory is that Samsung may be laying the groundwork for a major OS upgrade. The company appears to be readying the One UI 7 Watch update based on Wear OS 6. Maybe these software releases prepare the Galaxy Watch lineup for it, we shall find out in the coming weeks. One UI 7 Watch should go official alongside the Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch Ultra 2 in July.

Meanwhile, Galaxy Watch 7, Watch Ultra, Watch 6, Watch 5, and Watch 4 users should install the latest update when available. These updates have been rolling out for a few days now, but haven’t reached users worldwide. As always, users can check for the update manually via the Galaxy Wearable app on their paired smartphones or directly through the Settings app on their watches.
