Samsung Unveils 13-Inch Color E-Paper with Bio-Resin Housing

Samsung has expanded its Color E-Paper lineup to offer more options for businesses. Last year, the company launched a 32-inch Color E-Paper model that brings paper-like, larger digital signage. Now, it has unveiled a 13-inch model with bio-resin housing, providing a compact solution for spaces like shelves, counters, and doors.
The new Color E-Paper uses eco-friendly materials
Samsung’s latest Color E-Paper (EM13DX model) is around the size of an A4 sheet of paper. The paper‑thin display features 1,600 x 1,200 resolution with a 4:3 aspect ratio for sharp images and clear text. It also uses advanced digital ink technology for vivid visuals. Furthermore, it can display static images at zero watts of power without compromising reliability.
The new Color E-Paper also stands out because of its eco-friendly design. The display’s housing consists of 45% recycled plastic and 10% phytoplankton-based bio-resin. Samsung says this approach can reduce carbon emissions by more than 40% than conventional petroleum-based plastics. The materials have been verified by UL, a global safety and sustainability certification organization.
“By incorporating innovative technology such as phytoplankton-based bio-resin, we’re demonstrating our commitment to advancing both display technology and the materials behind it,” said a Samsung executive. “Our Color E-Paper products are designed to replace paper with ultra-low power performance and ultra-slim, lightweight designs.”
The display weighs only 0.9 kg with its embedded rechargeable battery and is just 17.9 mm thick. It supports USB Type-C charging and can work without being plugged in. Thanks to Samsung’s advanced color imaging algorithm, the Color E-Paper improves color accuracy and readability, making visuals look like traditional printed materials.
Samsung also offers an E-Paper app on Android or iOS, letting staff update and manage content directly from their personal devices. The display also works with Samsung VXT, a cloud platform that allows remote management, troubleshooting, and more. The company is now gearing up to unveil a 20-inch model at the upcoming ISE 2026.
