Samsung is gearing up to launch its first tri-fold smartphone, apparently called the Galaxy G Fold. While the company teased the smartphone during the January 2025 Unpacked event, its details remain under wraps. But as its launch approaches, leaks are starting to pick up pace. Now, a fresh leak reveals that its main display will measure 9.9 inches when unfolded, which should offer the best viewing experience for users.
Samsung’s tri-fold display size emerges ahead of launch
Samsung’s foldable smartphone lineup segment currently includes a single-folding device in book-style and clamshell form factors. Its current top-end foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold SFE, comes with an 8-inch inner display. So, it’s obvious that a tri-fold mechanism allows Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold device to offer an even bigger display.
Recently, a well-known tipster, Digital Chat Station, revealed that Samsung’s first tri-fold galaxy smartphone will feature a huge 9.9-inch inner display, which is around 2 inches larger than that of the Z Fold SE. Now, comparing it with the world’s first tri-fold device, the Huawei Mate X Ultimate, we find a minor size difference, as Huawei’s offering measures 10.2 inches when unfolded.
However, design-wise, both devices adopt different foldable mechanisms. Huawei adopts the S-style mechanism, which features one section folding inward and the other outward. On the other hand, Samsung’s tri-fold device may fold twice inwards, protecting the screen from drop impact.
Speaking of the cover screen size, an earlier report revealed that Samsung’s tri-fold smartphone will feature a similar cover display as the Galaxy Z Fold 7. If true, we can expect about a 6.5-inch external screen.
Samsung is reportedly planning to hold the second Galaxy Unpacked event in New York in early July. While this event might be reserved for Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and an affordable Z Flip FE, we can expect Samsung to share more details about its tri-fold device as well.
