Samsung Tri-Fold Could Feature Silicon-Carbon Battery, S26 Next?

Samsung just confirmed the launch of its first-ever slim flagship, the Galaxy S25 Edge. The company has another completely new product in development, a triple-folding foldable smartphone. Rumored to be called the G Fold, this upcoming tri-fold is gaining attention not just for its unique design, but for the advanced hardware inside. Fresh information sheds some light on what Samsung has in store.

Silicon-carbon battery could soon become mainstream on Samsung phones

The biggest highlight is the silicon-carbon battery, a newer type of battery that holds more power in a smaller size compared to regular lithium-ion. Samsung has reportedly passed safety and performance tests for this battery tech and is all set to use it in its first tri-fold, slated to arrive later this year. The battery capacity may remain under 5,000mAh, likely to ensure a slim and lightweight build.

Nonetheless, this may mark the beginning of something new, as this battery technology fits right into Samsung’s plan of making Galaxy phones slimmer. Next year’s Galaxy S26 series, which is rumored to be thinner than ever, could also feature silicon-carbon batteries.

Besides featuring a silicon-carbon battery, Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold borrows some parts from the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7. It is said to feature the same speaker drivers and design cut-outs. It also features a similar hinge mechanism that allows a fully flat body when opened. That said, this phone folds at two places, so Samsung must have customized the hinge to fit its design.

The tri-fold may also have a more pronounced display crease compared to the Fold 7. This is likely because of its dual inward-folding design. Additionally, it is said to support 8K video recording at 30fps, but only on the main camera. Since the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s new 50MP ultrawide sensor supports 8K videos, the tri-fold seemingly misses out on this upgrade.

Note that all of this information is based on the latest tri-fold prototype Samsung is testing internally. Things could change down the line as the company continues the development. The device isn’t expected to arrive until September or October. Meanwhile, Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy S25 Edge next week, followed by the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 in early July.
