For years, Samsung has supplied displays for Apple’s iPhones. As the Cupertino giant prepares its next-gen iPhone 18 series, the Korean display maker is once again gearing up to supply OLED panels. A fresh report now suggests these panels will feature more cutting-edge technology than those employed in previous models.

iPhone 18 Pro models may feature LTPO+ OLED panels

Apple will likely launch two models in its upcoming iPhone 18 series: iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. According to a report from ETNews, Samsung Display and LG Display will be the main suppliers of OLED panels for both devices. Interestingly, Apple is requesting a next-gen OLED technology, LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon Oxide)+, for the models.

For the uninitiated, LTPO+ is an advanced display technology that uses oxide materials to improve power efficiency. As such, iPhone 18 Pro models should use less power while still supporting a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz. Moreover, the advanced display also supports Under-Display IR (UDIR), which hides the infrared sensor beneath the screen.

This suggests that both iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could have Face ID components under the display. As a result, Apple may remove the pill-shaped Dynamic Island and put only a small hole-punch cutout for the front camera. As of now, only Samsung Display and LG Display are able to support Under-Display IR technology on top of LTPO+, meaning BOE (Chinese display maker) is unlikely to be part of the iPhone 18 series display supply chain. In fact, BOE also suffered setbacks with the iPhone 17 series due to quality issues.

Meanwhile, Samsung Display will be the sole supplier for Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone, expected to debut in the second half of 2026. The device may feature a crease-free OLED panel, addressing the long-standing issue of the foldable screen. Rumors suggest that Samsung will also use a crease-free screen in its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8.
