Samsung to Power Galaxy Z Flip 7 with Its Exynos 2500 Chip Globally

Rumors are swirling that Samsung will equip its upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 with the in-house Exynos 2500 chip. However, whether the Korean firm will launch the Exynos variant globally or limit it to just a few regions remains unclear. A new report sheds light on the matter, saying that the flagship 3nm Exynos chip will power the Galaxy Z Flip 7 globally.
The upcoming clamshell foldable smartphone will run the Exynos 2500 everywhere
Samsung originally planned to integrate its 3nm Exynos 2500 in the Galaxy S25 series. However, several performance-related issues, such as overheating and low yields, delayed its mass production. As a result, all models in the flagship Galaxy S lineup feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite regardless of region.
The company now aims to use the Exynos chip in its upcoming Flip foldable. Korean media outlet DealSite reports that despite concerns about yield and performance, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will “fully” use the Exynos 2500. While there have been hints at that possibility, some industry experts expected that Samsung’s in-house chip would only be installed in Korean and Asian units, with global units running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite.
“I understand that they are planning to equip all Flip 7s with Exynos as the AP. There was some controversy internally due to the low yield, but in the end, the direction is moving toward using it in all units, even if it means accepting the low yield,” an industry insider told the publication.
Samsung’s bold move with Exynos 2500
The report further says that the yield of the Exynos 2500 is currently around 30%, which is quite low for mass production. Industry analysts believe the reason behind this bold move is that Samsung Foundry wants to gain mass production experience with its cutting-edge 3nm process, which uses GAA (Gate-All-Around) architecture. If successful, this will not only help secure key foundry customers but also have a positive effect when it starts production of the 2nm Exynos 2600 chip for the Galaxy S26 series later this year.
Regarding the specification of the Exynos 2500 chip, an earlier report revealed that it will feature a deca-core CPU arrangement. Its main ARM’s Cortex-X925 core runs at 3.30GHz. The chipset may feature 16MB L3 cache and RDNA 3.5 architecture-based Xclipse 950 GPU. It will be interesting to see how this flagship 3nm chip performs in the real world.
