Samsung’s RAM Plus feature may see an upgrade in One UI 8. Newly spotted evidence suggests the company will allow users to allocate up to 12GB of virtual RAM — a boost from the current 8GB cap in One UI 7. The only requirement is a minimum of 12GB of physical RAM.

RAM Plus is a memory compression feature that uses system RAM to store data in a compressed format. This feature allows more data to stay in RAM, keeping apps running in the background longer. Compression does use a bit more CPU power, but helps maintain performance under heavy load.
While there’s a misconception that RAM Plus uses internal storage space to create additional virtual RAM, that’s not the case. RAM Plus doesn’t eat up your storage — it just makes your RAM smarter. And Samsung is preparing an upgrade for it in One UI 8.
According to early information shared by trusted source @DalglishGX, Samsung is expanding the virtual RAM limit from 8GB to 12GB on supported devices. This upgrade is expected to benefit Galaxy phones that already come with 12GB or more of physical RAM. Currently, Galaxy users can select from 2GB, 4GB, 6GB, or 8GB of virtual RAM.
This upgrade should be particularly useful for power users, who keep a lot of apps running in the background. While Samsung sells the Galaxy S25 Ultra with 16GB of RAM in some markets, the virtual RAM capacity is limited to 8GB. Maybe Samsung also plans to offer more physical RAM on its future flagships — up to 24GB — only time will tell.
Rumors suggest Samsung will launch One UI 8 in July, shipping the new version out of the box on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. In addition to RAM Plus improvements, One UI 8 should bring new features and visual changes aimed at enhancing the overall user experience.
