Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 lineup appears to have undergone a sudden internal shake-up. According to new information, the company has canceled the Edge model in favor of continuing with the Plus branding. It may have also decided against renaming the base model as the S26 Pro. These changes could delay the launch, though software development continues in full swing.

Fresh One UI 8.5 builds for the Galaxy S26 series spotted on Samsung’s servers

For months, rumors pointed to Samsung preparing a small overhaul for the Galaxy S26 series. The base model was said to be rebranded as “S26 Pro,” and the traditional “Plus” model was being replaced by the super-slim “Edge” variant. However, those plans now seem to have been quietly scrapped, with Samsung reverting to its familiar three-model lineup: Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Despite a late internal restructuring, software development for the Galaxy S26 series is progressing smoothly. New firmware builds for all three models have recently surfaced on Samsung’s official servers, signaling that testing is well underway. We spotted new builds with firmware version AYJH or AYJI, depending on the region.

Of course, these builds don’t reveal any new features yet, but confirm ongoing development across multiple regions. They also suggest that Samsung plans to stick with the original model numbers for the upcoming flagships. The Galaxy S26 should have been SM-S941, but Samsung switched to SM-S942 due to the Pro branding and is now sticking with it.

Likewise, the Galaxy S26+ gets the model number SM-S947 instead of SM-S946. The Ultra model has always been SM-S948. With the One UI 8.5 software development in full swing, it remains to be seen how quickly Samsung can finalize the internal restructuring and unveil the Galaxy S26 series. More details should emerge in the coming weeks as the devices head into mass production.
