Samsung is rapidly moving ahead with the development of One UI 8, its next major software update based on Android 16. Amid rumors of a beta release next week, evidence confirms that the company is already testing the update on older flagships. A couple of days earlier, the Galaxy S23 appeared on Geekbench running One UI 8. Now, the Galaxy S22 Ultra surfaced on the same platform with the next One UI version.
The Galaxy S22 series joins Samsung’s Android 16 and One UI 8 testing
While the One UI 7 update faced lengthy delays — it arrived almost five months later than the expected timeline — Samsung is typically quick in pushing new updates to its devices. It appears the company is back on track again with One UI 8. As mentioned above, it may soon release beta updates, at least for the Galaxy S25 series in select regions. Ahead of that, the firm is internally testing the big update for more devices. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is the latest to be spotted online running Android 16.
This early appearance aligns with Google’s recent confirmation that stable Android 16-based updates will begin rolling out sometime this summer. Samsung is expected to introduce the stable One UI 8 version in July, alongside the Fold 7 and Flip 7. Older models may get the stable update in the following months, with the rollout likely completing before the end of the year.
For Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra users, One UI 8 will be particularly significant. It is the final major Android OS update for the 2022 flagship lineup. These devices launched with Android 12 (One UI 4) and are eligible for four generations of Android upgrades, making Android 16 their last stop.
