Samsung to Supply OLED for Apple’s Debut Touchscreen MacBook Pro

Apple seems to be planning a major MacBook refresh, and Samsung will play a key role. Multiple reports over the years have suggested Apple’s plan of debuting a touchscreen MacBook Pro, and a recent report suggests that Samsung Display will power it.
Samsung will supply OLED touchscreens for the major MacBook Pro refresh
The new MacBook Pro will use OLED panels that support touch, marking a first for Apple laptops, according to Ming Chi-Kuo. The touchscreen uses on-cell technology, which puts the touch sensors directly in the display instead of adding them as a separate layer. This design helps keep the MacBook thin and light while making the touch controls more responsive.

Samsung’s role is key because it has the experience and technology needed to produce high-quality OLED panels at scale. By providing Apple with both the display and the touch layer, Samsung becomes an important partner in this new development. This partnership could also set a new standard for high-end laptops, offering bright OLED colors and smooth touch controls.
While Apple has avoided adding touchscreens to MacBooks in the past, the use of Samsung’s OLED technology may change that approach. The first touchscreen MacBook Pro is expected to enter mass production in 2026. However, details on the chip and other hardware are still unclear. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had previously suggested that Apple won’t launch an OLED MacBook Pro before end of 2026 and early 2027.
