We recently learned that Samsung will give a flagship treatment to the Galaxy S25 FE’s selfie camera, equipping it with the same 12MP sensor as the rest of the lineup. Unfortunately, this flagship treatment doesn’t extend to the rear cameras. A new report confirms that the upcoming Fan Edition device will retain an identical rear camera setup to its predecessor, meaning no zoom camera upgrade.
Galaxy S25 FE to retain the aging 8MP zoom camera
Samsung’s Fan Edition lineup is known for offering a flagship-level Galaxy experience at lower prices. Sure enough, these are the cheapest Galaxy phones with a telephoto zoom lens. You also get a premium build quality, an excellent display, top-tier speakers, and many other flagship features at a fairly reasonable price.
However, some of those specs only look flashy on paper, including the zoom camera. Samsung shipped the Galaxy S24 FE with an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and it failed to impress. There were talks about the company potentially upgrading the next FE model to the 10MP sensor found on the Galaxy S25 and S25+, but Galaxy Club says that isn’t happening.
According to the publication, the Galaxy S25 FE will retain the aging 8MP zoom camera, which originally debuted on the S21 FE in 2022. This marks the fourth consecutive generation (there was no S22 FE) using the same zoom sensor, a clear sign that Samsung is reserving serious camera advancements for its premium flagships.
The other two rear cameras on the Galaxy S25 FE also remain unchanged — a 50MP primary shooter and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. Fortunately, both are flagship-grade sensors. Still, while the inclusion of a telephoto lens is notable, especially since the recently launched Galaxy S25 Edge skips it entirely, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Samsung is overdue for a camera hardware refresh in the FE lineup.
