Samsung Shares Insights on Advancing 6G Connectivity With AI

The telecommunications industry will experience a major transformation in the 6G era. Samsung is contributing greatly to this shift by building a next-generation technology ecosystem. An executive recently explained how the company plans to link telecommunications and AI for the 6G era through global partnerships.
Samsung aims to shape the future of 6G through global partnerships
JinGuk Jeong, Executive Vice President and Head of the Advanced Communications Research Center (ACRC) at Samsung Electronics, said the fusion of AI and telecommunications will deliver two core benefits. They are innovations in user experience and greater network efficiency through automation. This will be possible if AI-native networks are developed and applied across every layer of the telecommunications network.
AI-native means more than just adding AI to specific equipment or network functions. It embeds AI technologies throughout every stage, from design to operation. For example, in the physical layer (L1), AI can reduce noise in radio signals, improving network performance. In the data link layer (L2), AI can allocate network resources to reduce power consumption.
To make AI-native networks a reality, Jeong also talked about the importance of global collaboration. Samsung has teamed up with global telecom operators, academic institutions, and industry alliances worldwide. This will allow the company to expand its research while bringing these technologies to real-world network environments.

Jeong noted that AI-RAN has already advanced beyond laboratory simulations and is now ready to test in live network environments. Samsung has played a key role as vice chair of the board and chair of Working Group 3 (AI-on-RAN) in the AI-RAN Alliance. The global consortium aims to combine AI and wireless technologies.
Samsung also aims to create meaningful user experiences in day-to-day life through next-generation communications. “In the 6G era, we’ll go beyond improving network performance. Services such as AR and XR will become more widespread, and entirely new ones will emerge,” said Jeong. “Events like the 6G Innovation Forum will also focus on these new services.”
