Samsung’s September 2025 Security Update is Massive, Fixes 86 Issues

Samsung has outlined the content of its September 2025 Security Maintenance Release (SMR) for Galaxy devices, and it’s a massive one. The latest security patch bundles fixes for 86 flaws from Samsung, Google, and other partners. The company has already pushed the patch to some devices running the One UI 8 beta, with more eligible models (non-beta) expected to receive it in the coming weeks.

Samsung continues to provide timely security updates to protect its Galaxy devices against the newly spotted threats. This month’s SMR packages contain fixes for 58 high-severity Android OS vulnerabilities and two critical Android issues. The company also patched a semiconductor flaw affecting Exynos products. The issue was a programming mistake in the buffer copy that could lead to out-of-bounds writes.

Apart from Google and Semiconductor patches, the Korean firm has also fixed 25 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVEs). It is worth noting that these fixes apply only to Galaxy devices, including phones, tablets, and smartwatches. This means Android devices from other brands will not receive these SVEs. As always, Samsung has detailed some of the vulnerabilities to boost user trust in the company’s security system.

Among the SVE items patched in the September security bulletin is an improper access control issue in One UI Home. This flaw allowed attackers to bypass Kiosk mode under limited conditions in the default launcher. The patch also adds proper validation to fix an issue in ThemeManager. Previously, local attackers could reuse trial items due to improper privilege management.

Furthermore, the update brings a fix for a System UI-related issue that could allow local attackers to send arbitrary replies from the cover display. It also blocks access to sensitive information in ContactProvider. Other notable issues have also been patched across several components, such as MARsExemptionManager, libsavsvc.so, ImsService, and AppPrelaunchManagerService.
