Samsung Rolls Out January 2026 Update, Starting with Galaxy A34

Samsung has begun rolling out its January 2026 security update, and once again, the Galaxy A34 has beaten newer and more expensive models to the punch. The mid-range device is the first Galaxy phone to receive the latest patch, continuing a trend that also saw it pick up the December security update ahead of most of Samsung’s lineup. A wider rollout should begin in the coming days.
Galaxy A34 gets January 2026 security patch first
The January 2026 security update is currently rolling out to the Galaxy A34 (5G) in South Korea. The update carries build version A346NKSSCEYL2 and weighs in at around 320MB. The official changelog confirms that the latest firmware release focuses on security fixes rather than new features. The device is eligible for One UI 8.5, which should arrive in the first half of this year with tons of new features and enhancements.
As with other monthly patches, the January release bundles fixes for vulnerabilities found in both the Android operating system and Samsung’s One UI layer. The update addresses 55 security issues, with severity levels ranging from moderate to critical, helping protect devices against potential exploits. The bulk of those patches are for Samsung-specific flaws rather than Android OS issues.
As mentioned above, this isn’t the first time the Galaxy A34 has led Samsung’s update rollout. The phone was also the first to receive the December 2025 security patch. However, it shouldn’t be long before the company pushes the latest security release to more devices, including flagships like the Galaxy S25 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
In fact, owners of a Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra enrolled in the One UI 8.5 beta program have already received the January 2026 security patch. Samsung bundled the patch with the third beta build, ensuring that beta testers remain up to date on the security front. We will let you know when the company rolls out the new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) to Galaxy S25 users on One UI 8.
