After the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra, Samsung is rolling out a big software update for the Galaxy Watch 6 series. Both the base model and the Watch 6 Classic are receiving the new update. It is currently available in Korea but should go global soon.
Galaxy Watch 6 series receives a big new update
The latest update for the Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic carries the firmware build number BYD1. Samsung is pushing the new build to all models — the watches come in two sizes each, both with Bluetooth and Cellular connectivity options. First reported by Aptivi, this update is said to be “rather massive.” However, the publication doesn’t specify the size.
To recall, the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra recently received new updates with OTA sizes exceeding 900MB. Well, the Ultra model’s patch was almost half that size in the US, but it did pick up a big update globally. It looks like Samsung is rolling out something similar to the Galaxy Watch 6 series. Maybe it plans to soon update the Watch 5 and Watch 4 as well.
As far as the changelog is concerned, it was pretty generic for the Watch 7 and Watch Ultra. Samsung said bug fixes and stability improvements, with no new features in tow. Maybe the company is preparing to introduce a new One UI Watch version in the coming months. It has the Galaxy Watch 8 series in development, with a launch expected in July.
If you are using a Samsung smartwatch, you can check for new software updates directly from the watch or the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected smartphone. Go to Watch Settings (Settings app) > Software update, and then select Download and install. If the update fails to transfer from your phone, disconnect Bluetooth and retry directly from the watch. Enabling Wi-Fi on your watch will speed up the process.
