Samsung Rolls Out August Update to Galaxy Note 20 in the US

A few days ago, Samsung released the July 2025 security patch for the Galaxy Note 20 series in Korea. The August security update has now hit the US units, introducing the latest security fixes to the aging Note phones. This could be the last update for the Note 20 duo.
Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra receive a new update
Launched back in 2020, the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra continue to receive regular security updates, though that era may soon be coming to a close. Samsung’s official policy promised security patches for the duo until August 2025. Now, with the August patch rolling out, this could very well be the final update for the series.
While we still do not have confirmation of that, we can confirm the availability of the latest security fixes in the US. The update comes with the firmware build numbers N981USQSEHYH1 and N981U1UESEHYH2 for the carrier-locked and unlocked variants of the base Note 20. Those for the Ultra models are N986USQSEHYH1 and N986U1UESEHYH1, respectively.
This patch fixes 29 Android vulnerabilities, including one critical issue and 28 high-severity flaws, plus 18 Galaxy-specific vulnerabilities addressed by Samsung. Together, they make the devices more secure and stable, even without new features or Android upgrades. The Galaxy Note 20 phones remain on Android 13, with no eligibility for Android 14 or newer.
As always, users can check manually by going to Settings > Software update > Download and install. If this is indeed the last patch, Note 20 owners may want to start thinking about an upgrade. For those who still value the S Pen, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is the natural successor. Though it no longer supports Bluetooth-powered Air Actions, it remains the only Samsung flagship with a built-in stylus.
With its update window nearly closed, the Galaxy Note 20 series has reached the end of a long run. Installing the August patch ensures it goes out on a secure and stable note.
