Samsung Reportedly Plans Exynos-Powered Galaxy S27 Ultra in 2027

After taking a year off, Exynos looks set to make its comeback in Samsung’s flagship lineup with the Galaxy S26 series. However, the Ultra model will reportedly remain Snapdragon-exclusive for another generation. The Galaxy S22 Ultra (2022) was the last Ultra phone to feature an Exynos chip, and the next one could be the S27 Ultra, expected to arrive in early 2027.
Samsung now plans to ship the Galaxy S27 Ultra with an Exynos chip
Samsung reportedly intended to use its in-house Exynos 2600 in the Galaxy S26 Ultra in some regions. However, it eventually decided to go all-in with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 due to several internal and market factors. While the Other two S26 models may still feature Exynos versions, the next Ultra may ship with the Snapdragon chip globally.
Industry observers see this as a pragmatic move. According to Kim Yong-seok, a distinguished professor at Gachon University’s College of Semiconductors, the shift signals both progress and restraint on Samsung’s part.
“The expansion of Exynos-equipped models seems to be an achievement of chip design and improved GAA 2nm yield. It seems that it will only be possible to install an ultra model in 2027 (Galaxy S27),” Kim said (via ChosunBiz). “As Samsung expands its own AP installation, its price negotiation power with Qualcomm will also improve,” he added.
Of course, it’s still too early for Galaxy S27 rumors. Things could change fast once the development picks up pace. However, Professor Kim’s remarks suggest that Samsung’s semiconductor division has made tangible progress with Exynos, though full confidence in the platform’s readiness for the Ultra line may not arrive until 2027, when the Exynos 2700 is expected to debut.
Given that the Ultra model consistently leads global sales within the Galaxy S lineup, Samsung appears unwilling to risk potential instability or yield issues associated with a relatively new 2nm node. By opting for Snapdragon once more, Samsung ensures stable global performance and preserves consumer confidence, particularly after the backlash from earlier Exynos-powered devices like the Galaxy S22 series, which faced widespread criticism for throttling and overheating.
