Samsung’s February update is available for a couple more Galaxy devices. The Galaxy S21 FE and A55 have received the latest security patch in some regions, with a global rollout expected soon. The company previously updated over 30 smartphones and tablets across various parts of the world.
Galaxy S21 FE and A55 receive Samsung’s February security update
This month’s security update for Galaxy devices contains over 40 vulnerability patches. Also known as SMR or Security Maintenance Release, this update addresses vulnerabilities across Google’s version of Android OS and Samsung’s proprietary software. At least of Android OS flaw patched by Google this month was a critical vulnerability, while most of the remaining were classified as “high-severity” flaws.
As usual, Samsung has been rolling out the February SMR to eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets since early this month. Flagship models were given priority, but the company has also updated several budget and mid-range devices over the past few weeks. The latest entrants to this party — Galaxy S21 FE and Galaxy A55 — fall somewhere between the two categories.
The Galaxy S21 FE is widely receiving the February across Asia. Its new firmware build number is G990EXXSCFYB3. For the Galaxy A55, the rollout began in Europe, where users received the build number A556BXXS6AYB2. Samsung will soon release these updates in other parts of the world. The Galaxy S55 didn’t arrive in the US but the S21 FE did.
As expected, these devices are only getting the latest security fixes with no additional changes. Samsung is preparing to release the stable One UI 7.0 update for eligible models. It won’t push any notable user-facing changes to Galaxy devices ahead of that. Recent developments suggest the rollout will begin next month, with the Galaxy S24 series leading the charge. Both the Galaxy S21 FE and Galaxy A55 are eligible for One UI 7.0
