Samsung’s Privacy Display Could Arrive on Apple MacBooks

Samsung’s privacy display technology is gearing up to change how people protect their personal information in public with the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra. A fresh report now suggests the same screen technology could eventually make its way to Apple MacBooks. If true, this will be a big upgrade for laptop privacy, letting users keep sensitive content hidden from side views, all without hurting display quality.

MacBooks may use Samsung’s privacy display in 2029

According to a report from market research firm Omdia (via tipster @UniverseIce), Apple MacBooks could adopt Samsung’s privacy display technology around 2029. While the Korean firm will debut the feature on its Galaxy S26 Ultra (launching on February 25, 2026), MacBook fans may have to wait a few more years. This delay is likely due to screen size, as scaling the technology from a small phone display to larger laptop panels could be complex.

Samsung developed a next-generation OLED display technology, Flex Magic Pixel, to enable built-in privacy. Instead of depending on removable plastic screen protectors, this solution is integrated into the display panel and uses AI to adjust viewing angles. When you look at the screen straight, it appears bright and clear. But from the side, the content becomes black, making it difficult to read. As such, sensitive information, such as messages, passwords, and notifications, remains safe from shoulder surfers in public areas.

The good thing about this built-in privacy display is that it does not degrade image quality. That means colors remain accurate while preserving the overall brightness of the screen. Samsung will also make software tweaks to let users customize the privacy layer, such as visibility adjustments for apps. Apple should offer similar controls if it brings the same technology to MacBooks.
