Samsung Prepares to Launch Galaxy A17 4G Smartphone

A few days ago, Samsung unveiled its Galaxy A17 5G smartphone in a few global markets. The company is now gearing up to introduce a 4G version of the device for regions without widespread 5G. The model recently cleared SIRIM certification and appeared on the official support page, suggesting its imminent launch.
Galaxy A17 inches closer to launch after SIRIM and support page listing
Unlike the 5G model, Samsung will simply call its 4G variant the Galaxy A17. It will arrive in the market as the successor to last year’s Galaxy A16. As spotted by Thetechoutlook, the phone has obtained Malaysia’s SIRIM certification with model number SM-A175F/DS. The same model has already gained approval from several other regulatory bodies, including SDPPI, GCF, Bluetooth SIG, and Wi-Fi Alliance.
Furthermore, Samsung has begun teasing the Galaxy A17 through official support pages across different regions (1,2,3). Unsurprisingly, none of the listings alongside the recent certification reveal its specifications. However, they suggest the company is inching closer to launching the phone in the global market. Last year, the company introduced its A16 a few weeks after its 5G counterpart. With the A17 5G now official, the 4G variant should arrive as early as next month.
A few weeks ago, the Galaxy A17 was spotted on Geekbench, revealing some key details about the device. The listing confirmed that it will use MediaTek’s Helio G99 chipset, the same processor as its predecessor. It will ship with Android 15-based One UI 7 out of the box. Regarding software support, the company may offer six major OS upgrades, just like its predecessor.
Design-wise, the Galaxy A17 will likely adopt a similar design language as its 5G sibling, with a thinner and lighter profile. It may feature a pill-shaped camera bump to house its rear camera lens, likely a 50MP main, 5MP ultrawide, and 2MP sensor. However, it will be interesting to see whether the main lens includes Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) like the A17 5G. We should learn more about the device in the coming days.
