Samsung Prepares Major Update for SmartThings Family Care

SmartThings Family Care, a feature within the SmartThings app, is about to become even more helpful. Samsung is gearing up to release an update to Family Care later this month. The update, scheduled to roll out on August 12, will bring the ability to invite family members, provide more accurate activity information, offer better control over shared information, and feature a more intuitive user interface.

Samsung to introduce new version of its SmartThings Family Care soon

Introduced in 2024, the SmartThings Family Care service lets caregivers monitor the daily activities of aging parents or anyone they want to take care of. Galaxy device users running the SmartThings app can enjoy the service right away. Now, you won’t need to worry about your loved one’s health, as the service alerts you when it detects any abnormalities in their daily routine.

With the upcoming update, Samsung aims to provide better, more convenient, and safer care for your family. The first notable improvement is the ability to set a new caregiver and care recipient. You will be able to easily invite family members in need of support to begin personalized care. Once connected, the new caregiver will see detailed information such as their activities, location, and events.

Another meaningful improvement is the ability to connect with Samsung Health. If the care recipient uses Samsung Health, the Family Care service will provide even more detailed activity insights. This includes total activity hours, wake-up and sleep times, and step count. You will now be able to understand the care recipient’s lifestyle better as well as identify any unusual patterns early.

Furthermore, the new update aims to offer better protection for care recipients. They will be able to choose which information to share and which to keep private. Lastly, the user interface will get a major makeover. In addition to the existing Activities and Event tabs, the new Family Care service will add another tab: Location.

We will let you know when Samsung pushes the update to SmartThings Family Care. As said, the rollout begins on August 12, 2025. However, it could take a while for all eligible Galaxy users worldwide to receive the new features.
