Samsung Powers Texas Economy with $19.8B Chip Plant Boost

by | May 1, 2025 | News

Samsung‘s chip plants have become a key part of Central Texas’s economy, bringing in billions of dollars and creating lots of jobs. A recent study by Impact DataSource shows just how much Samsung has helped the area grow. The company already operates a chip factory in the region and is building two more.

Samsung brought money and jobs to Texas with its chip plants

In 2024, Samsung’s Austin and Taylor sites (the two Taylor factories aren’t operational yet) added a huge $19.8 billion to the local economy. This money has spread throughout different parts of the economy, boosting business and creating even more benefits. The sites have also created many jobs — 38,498 in total — and provided workers with $2.6 billion in salaries.

For nearly 30 years, Samsung Austin Semiconductor has been an important part of Central Texas. The Austin site has been a major player in making computer chips. In 2024, the site spent $6.1 billion locally and paid out $519.7 million in salaries. This has not only helped the local economy directly but has also led to an additional $4.8 billion in related economic benefits.

The Taylor site, which will include two factories, is expected to create up to 12,000 construction jobs and more than 3,500 permanent factory jobs in the next five years. This will greatly boost the local economy, generating $8.6 billion in economic output and $1.6 billion in salaries.

Samsung began construction at Taylor in 2022, originally planning to invest around $17 billion to build one factory. It has now more than doubled the investment to over $37 billion, adding another factory to the site. Samsung’s Taylor semiconductor facility is one of the largest of its kind in US history. The first plant should be operational in 2026.

Giving back to the community

Samsung’s commitment to Texas goes beyond just investing money. The company also actively participates in local community efforts. In 2024, Samsung Austin Semiconductor donated $2 million to local organizations in Austin, Manor, and Travis County, supporting important causes like providing food, improving education, and protecting the environment.

Samsung employees also showed their dedication by donating $474,067 to various charities and volunteering over 8,821 hours. The company’s investments in Central Texas have not only driven economic growth but have also contributed to the well-being of the community. As Samsung continues to expand in the region, its impact is likely to shape the future of Central Texas for many years to come.
