A nifty feature for Samsung Galaxy phones might be in the works. If a recent patent is anything to go by, your Galaxy phone could soon change wallpapers based on the weather and time of day. This will obviously be done with the help of genAI.

Your Galaxy might change wallpapers based on weather and time, suggests patent

As spotted by 91Mobiles, Samsung has recently secured a patent for an AI-powered weather-changing wallpaper feature for Galaxy. The patent was filed with the United States Patent Application Publication last year and was officially published on January 2. So, what does the patent suggest? Your Galaxy’s wallpaper background will automatically adjust to the time of day. It will be transitioning smoothly through dawn, morning, afternoon, evening, and night. It could also respond to weather conditions, switching between sunny, foggy, cloudy, rainy, or snowy themes.

One of the patent’s images even shows that the feature could send alerts like Carry an umbrella to your Galaxy device when it detects rain. The accompanying images highlight seasonal variations, suggesting the wallpaper could also adapt to reflect the current season. Samsung’s new feature relies on genAI with a predefined prompt to analyze the image or background. It identifies areas where time or weather changes could be applied and then generates a modified version that reflects these shifts.

Samsung Wallpaper Patent 2

For those who aren’t familiar, Samsung already offers a Photo Ambient Wallpaper feature. It adds effects like rain or nighttime to existing images. However, as the patent suggests, this new feature could replace the wallpaper to match the current time and weather conditions, all thanks to genAI. it would make the interface feel more intuitive, though the AI might need to analyze photo data to make this happen.

While there’s no official release timeline yet, upcoming versions of One UI 7 could likely bring this feature to life.
