Samsung One UI 8.5 Lets You Hide the Battery Pill

Samsung is adding more flexibility to the status bar with One UI 8.5, giving Galaxy users greater control over how the battery indicator appears. With this update, you can hide the battery pill, keeping a text-only indicator. The new iteration of Samsung’s One UI software debuts in early 2026.

One UI 8.5 will give you more control over the battery indicator

Until now, Galaxy devices have offered only two options for the battery indicator. You can either display a battery pill with the percentage inside it or hide the percentage and only keep the pill by toggling off “Show battery percentage” in battery settings. One UI 8.5 gives you more flexibility, as Samsung is splitting these controls.

A new “Show battery background” option lets you remove the pill-shaped battery icon while still keeping the percentage text visible. For users who prefer a cleaner, text-only look, this is a welcome refinement. In our testing, we were able to hide the battery pill, but the controls didn’t always behave as expected. That’s not surprising, as One UI 8.5 is still in development and unofficial early builds are prone to bugs and inconsistencies.

The existing “Show battery percentage” toggle remains, so you can still disable the text indicator and only keep the pill. Speaking of which, the pill itself now looks slimmer. Samsung made it chunky with One UI 7 and kept it largely unchanged on One UI 8. But One UI 8.5 reverts to a slimmer icon.

These small but thoughtful tweaks highlight Samsung’s ongoing effort to give users more customization options, even in the finer details of the interface. One UI 8.5 brings enhanced customizations and updates across various other system elements, including the homescreen and quick panel.
