Samsung has released a new update for its Notes app, introducing a Math Solver feature. However, before you get excited, it appears to be a work in progress. The feature is extremely limited, both in terms of functionality and device support. Samsung might make it more useful for Galaxy users worldwide with subsequent updates.

New Samsung Notes update introduces Math Solver, but it’s barely useful

This Math Solver feature was first spotted by X user @kumarkaustubh03 on Samsung Notes version 4.4.26.71. They installed this version on their Galaxy Tab S9+ and found that the app can convert handwritten equations into neatly formatted images. The feature works without an internet connection, allowing users to write out mathematical expressions and see them rendered as clear, professional-looking equations.

However, while Math Solver successfully formats equations, it currently does not provide solutions. Users expecting it to solve complex problems might be disappointed, as the feature appears to be focused solely on converting handwritten input into a proper equation format rather than computing answers. It’s unclear whether Samsung plans to expand its capabilities in future updates.

Considering the feature is called Math Solver, it surely looks like Samsung intends to offer solutions. There has been a rumor about Samsung developing an AI-powered math solver tool for the Galaxy S25 series. It will offer step-by-step solutions to help you understand the process. But for the time being, Samsung Notes can only format hand-written mathematical equations.

Perhaps it’s a work in progress, as compatibility also remains limited to large-screen devices, including foldables and tablets. We installed version 4.4.26.71 of Samsung Notes on a Galaxy S24 Ultra and a Galaxy S25 Ultra, both running One UI 7.0, and Math Solver was nowhere to be found. In fact, the S25 Ultra has a newer version but this feature is still missing. Hopefully, Samsung plans a full-fledged rollout soon.
