Samsung Might Bring Perplexity AI to Galaxy Phones, Joining Bixby and Gemini

While Perplexity is not as popular as Gemini or ChatGPT, it offers several useful AI features, such as providing real-time answers instead of relying on a fixed set of data. It has an interface similar to a search engine and can answer questions more effectively. Now, there is chatter that Samsung Galaxy devices might get a new Perplexity AI assistant. If true, this would be the third assistant on Galaxy devices, alongside Gemini and Bixby.

Perplexity is in talks with Samsung for its AI assistant integration into Galaxy devices

According to a Bloomberg report, Lenovo has signed an agreement with Perplexity AI to integrate it into its next-generation phones. Motorola is hosting an event on April 24th to announce the Moto Razr lineup for 2025. Instead of using Google Gemini as the main assistant, these devices will ship with Perplexity AI. Perplexity will make some changes to its UI to take advantage of the Razr’s form factor, which includes a cover screen on the outside.

Interestingly, the report mentions that Perplexity is also in talks with Samsung, with the purpose of integrating its AI assistant into Galaxy devices. While Motorola’s partnership is confirmed, the discussions with Samsung are still at an early stage. Nothing is finalized, and the deal may or may not be signed.

If signed, Samsung might push Perplexity through the Galaxy Store or ship it as a pre-installed app. There is a very low chance that Samsung will use it as the default option, since replacing Gemini after a lot of integration into the UI does not make sense.

Samsung has a close partnership with Google for software and AI features. It is highly unlikely that the Korean firm will pick another AI company. While a collaboration with a major company like Samsung will still benefit Perplexity, it may not be very beneficial for Samsung.

The major advantage of Perplexity is the flexibility it offers. It supports the integration of other AI models such as Anthropic and OpenAI. So, there is a good chance that Samsung may sign this deal for some minor feature that might ship under the Galaxy AI name, instead of a full partnership for integration, like the one with Google.
