It’s no secret that Samsung is developing its first tri-fold smartphone, purportedly called the Galaxy G Fold. After all, the Korean firm teased the device during its January 2025 Unpacked event. But since then, the company has remained silent about its launch and other details, though the rumor mill keeps revealing new info. Now, a fresh report reveals Samsung aims to start panel production for its Galaxy tri-fold in early June 2025, hinting at a launch in the second half of the year.
Samsung may soon start panel production for its upcoming tri-fold device
Samsung reportedly began mass production of its Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 this month. Both devices should go official during the summer Unpacked event, which could happen in early July 2025. But given that Samsung has yet to start panel production for its tri-fold device, it won’t launch alongside the upcoming foldable duo.
According to the Korean media, Samsung Display will start mass production of panels for Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold device as early as next month. The report also says that the company will launch the device in the second half of this year. However, the initial quantity could be around 200,000 to 300,000 units, as it is a new form factor. The company will assess the market response and demand to decide whether to increase the production quantity.
Speaking of the display size, an earlier report suggested Samsung’s tri-fold phone may pack a massive 9.9-inch main display, roughly 2 inches bigger than the Z Fold SE. As for the cover screen, it may pack a similar cover display as the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is about 6.5 inches in size.
There’s also chatter that Samsung will launch its tri-fold in select countries first due to its high price, and then gradually expand to more markets. However, since Huawei’s tri-fold phone, the Mate XT, has shown strong demand for premium foldable devices following its global launch, industry analysts expect that Samsung’s tri-fold may also see strong demand worldwide.
