Samsung May Remove Built-In S Pen from Galaxy S27 Ultra

Samsung’s decision to remove Bluetooth functionality from the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen disappointed many fans. We launched a petition as well, hoping that Samsung will bring back Bluetooth-enabled S Pen with the Galaxy S26 Ultra next year. However, it always looked like the company was moving in the other direction, planning to entirely remove the built-in S Pen from its Ultra flagships. This may happen as early as 2027, starting with the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
Samsung may drop the S Pen slot from the Galaxy S27 Ultra
In recent years, Samsung has been leaning towards slimmer and lighter designs for its premium Galaxy phones, from the Galaxy S series to the foldable lineup. This resulted in the Korean firm stripping Bluetooth functionality from the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen. You can’t use Bluetooth-enabled features such as Air Actions, remote camera triggers, or slide navigation. Removing such useful wireless features feels like a step backward, especially for longtime Galaxy Note and Ultra users.
Unsurprisingly, Samsung seems to have no intention to restore Bluetooth connectivity in the S Pen for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. More importantly, according to a new leak from China (via @Jukanlosreve), the Galaxy S27 Ultra may not come with a built-in S Pen, suggesting that the company aims to further slim down its Ultra model. Interestingly, this is not the first time we have heard this — a few weeks ago, reports suggested that future iterations of the Ultra flagships may ditch the built-in stylus to free up internal space.

Note that removing a dedicated slot doesn’t mean the device will lose stylus support. In fact, users may still be able to use the S Pen, but they will have to purchase it separately, similar to the Galaxy Fold devices. Those who need the S Pen will still have the option to buy it from Samsung.
There’s chatter that Samsung is developing a new digitizer-free S Pen for the foldable. By removing the thin layer in the display that detects S Pen movement and input, the company aims to cut both weight and thickness. We may see this approach with the Galaxy S27 Ultra as well.
