Samsung is working on new camera features that could make the upcoming Galaxy S26 series more appealing. The features in question are Video softening and Autofocus speed and sensitivity controls. They will arrive through the Camera Assistant module, part of the Good Lock suite, rather than the main camera app.

Samsung is working on two new Camera Assistant features

For the uninitiated, Camera Assistant works alongside your Galaxy phone’s stock camera app. The module lets you customize settings and tweak features that are not normally available. Simply put, it acts as an advanced control panel, giving users more control over how their camera behaves.

While digging through the latest Camera Assistant update for One UI 8.5, folks over at Android Authority discovered two new features: Video softening and Autofocus speed and sensitivity controls. The publication expects both features to be introduced with the Galaxy S26 series. The reason is that Samsung has not enabled them in the One UI 8.5 Beta 2 for the Galaxy S25 series.

Speaking of Video softening, this feature is similar to Samsung’s existing Picture softening for photos. It reduces harsh details, creating smoother, more natural-looking photos. For videos, it should allow users to achieve softer skin tones and reduce digital noise. Users will likely be able to adjust the effect with options such as off, medium, or high.

Meanwhile, Autofocus speed and sensitivity controls give users the ability to set the speed and sensitivity of the auto-focus for photos and videos. Sensitivity controls the autofocus shifts when different subjects enter or leave the frame, while speed controls how fast the camera refocuses.

A previous report suggested that the Galaxy S26 Ultra may feature advanced technology for lenses and coatings to improve flare handling. It could also offer improved skin tone accuracy, helping to reproduce more natural-looking skin tones. With the launch approaching, we should learn more about next-gen Galaxy S flagships in the coming weeks.
